Mind Altering: why I'm now for Hillary Clinton for Nominee

I'm sorry folks. I've been watching on the sideline as the primary season has unfolded, and while I have dithered between various candidates,  listened to all their speeches ("just words") trying to keep an open mind, the last few weeks have confirmed it for me. I have no choice:

I WILL SUPPORT HILLARY RODHAM CLINTON FOR THE NOMINATION

Some of you (very few if any actually) will wonder after posting various comments on this site why I have decided this. It was not easy. I know I will incur the wrath of various bloggers, be trolled, lose friends and recs, and possibly even descend into a vat of oblivion. But it's now time to tell the truth as I see it. Not the urgency of now. The EMERGENCY OF NOW.

Others will also question why I, as an self declared foreigner, should have any opinion about an election taking place in our former colony. Well, despite the fact I have signed the official Facebook Petition to Revoke the Independence of the United States (http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=22 08523152) I truly believe that the UK is the potential 51st State of the USA. Our economy, politics, and culture follows yours. Do not our troops follow yours on most occasions even to the most improbable and unhelpful locations (Basra). You fought a War of Independence on the basis there should be no levy of troops or taxation without representation. Now it's time for payback. I'm getting some of my representation here. So according to your own constitution I have a vital voice in this most important election of our lifetime.

But what can I say with this voice?

I say this more in sadness than in sorrow. Barack Obama is a wonderful man. He writes and delivers amazing speeches that make me think, and make me feel, and treat me like an adult. But though I adore his eloquence and rationality and poise, there are various `concerns' and `issues' which have not been resolved, and make him an unfit candidate for President.

1. He will be destroyed by the media during the General Election, the same media which is giving him such an easy ride at the moment

  1. He is too Reaganite and far too liberal.
  2. He is too black and not black enough.
  3. He is backed by BIG MONEY. I mean big big money. Some $75 million in Feb alone. And most his backers only pay small amounts. I mean, who are these people? If you're going to be in somebody's pocket, better to be in a few big pockets than lots of small ones.
  4. He's an empty suit, who happens to have been to Harvard AND worked as a grass roots activist. Contradictory or what?
  5. He can't be president because he hasn't been president already.

I must admit I had doubts about Hillary. I was worried about creating another dynasty. I was worried about a return to the 90s and the salami slicing spin of the third way. But just as it takes a village to write a book for you, it takes a primary to show someone's true primary colors

Compare these credentials to Obama. It's a no-brainer.

1.Hillary has already been president in waiting. She's inevitable. Foreign leaders love inevitable
2.She was in the Senate long enough to make a mistake about AUMF in Iraq. That makes her human.
3.She's a fighter who will take down the house before she concedes an inch. (Samson, move over, here comes Delilah). We love fighters, and anyone who criticizes her for being such is a sexist. Meanwhile, Hillary supporters get to use the B word with complete freedom. It's brilliant.
4. Triangulation: only Hillary understands this. Keep on triangulating against right wing republicans, and eventually, they have nowhere to stand.  You destroy your enemy by becoming them. We are the enemy we have been looking for.

Some people may doubt the good faith of this diary. But I ask you to look at your own blinders. Only then can we move on. Smell test your distaste. Look at yourself in the mirror. And tell me, tell me honestly, why the following statement isn't so.

HILLARY CLINTON SHOULD BE THE NEXT REPUBLICAN NOMINEE FOR PRESIDENT

Good job! (2.00 / 0)

Pick at grammar, but avoid the substance of the diary or any chance at introspection!

Awesome!

Had me going there for a second. Very good.

Your old role is rapidly aging. Please get out of the new one if you can't lend a hand, for the times they are a changing.

I don't wish to drag Senator Clinton down, so I won't list her negatives here as you've done for Senator Obama.

But what makes you think similar caricatures of Senator Clinton won't be equally damaging?

Have we ever had a nominee who wasn't ripped apart by right-wing media?  I've read similar litanies about Dean, Kerry, Gore...all of them, in the past.  It's just smear politics, but I'm unused to seeing so much of it come from within my own Party, I must admit.

Obama will come out of this crisis stronger. He is fully vetted now.
He has shown he is calm and collected under pressure. He has debunked the muslim smear lie. The pastor issue which was bubbling under the surface is now open and people will move on from it.

Come October we can flood the market with Hagee and McCain together as a counter to their swiftboating.
